The Family Dog is an Idea, a Belief and an Environment. The unselfish ego-less, caring and loving attitude of the '60s was nurtured and devoloped by the Family Dog. This creativity continued with psychedelic posters of the events which literally changed the art world! Take a walk with the DOG now, down a path of over thirty years of colorful characters and characters with color. HOWL'IN AND ALIVE SINCE 1965. This is just bit, from PUP to POOCH! This chapter will continue to grow, adding the more unique ,unusual and entertaining pieces from the POSTERVILLE Archives.

Silk Screened Classic Logo.

This piece was a gift from Stanley Mouse to the Professor way back when he was just a pup in 1966. Over the years it became dry and brittle and began to actually break off bit by bit. If you take a close look you can see where it has been repaired along the right side. Just the same, it has survived the test of time and is a sentimental piece here in Posterville that will continue to be enjoyed by those that see it. Just below is a close-up look at the famous Family Dog Motto...:
"MAY THE BABY JESUS SHUT YOUR MOUTH, AND OPEN YOUR MIND." Normally it is far too small to read on any posters that it appears on.

30th ANNIVERSARY POSTER

To celebrate and commemorate the survival of the FAMILY DOG for Thirty Years, this beautiful poster was created by the renown artist JIM PHILLIPS. Come to think of it, if I'm not mistaken, that would be 210 years in a dog's life! They are rarely seen or available for that matter outside the S.F. Bay Area. If you are interested in one, let the Professor know with the touch of the EMAIL button below.

Along the road to Posterville somewhere, this postcard of the CHIEF was donated as a historical photo. Alas to this day, no one that I have ever spoken with knows just what his true name really is. Recently in the workshop, a very limited edition of only fifty copies have been made from the original. The portrait of this distinguished Native American Chief has been framed appropriately, and is wall ready for you, my fellow citizens of Posterville. $25 post paid.

The "DOLLAR BILL" Poster

Here is quite an oddity! Posterville has three copies of this uncut second printing of F.D. number 19. There are always afew uncut sheets of many posters floating around ......... they're just not often seen and are generally uncommon. Interested? Email the "Prof" and we can discuss the possibilities! Remember, Posterville encourages poster exchanges by the old fashion trade. The bonus here is MOUSE's signature between the two posters!

F.D. 33 HANDBILL PLATE

If this does'nt look quite the way you are used to seeing this image, it's because this is the printers plate for the handbill! Besides being one of the GREAT, Grateful Dead pieces. I have always thought this to be one of the best posters from the Avalon Ballroom. Family Dog number 33 has become known as the "LOGO" poster for the obvious reasons, and remains one of the truely great classic posters of the time.

This is not the poster that you might think it is! Check it out, with closer examination you see "Canned Heat" as the headlined band instead of the "Dead". That's because this poster is a bogus take-off on the F.D. #33. A totally unauthorized rip-off of the DOG's LOGO image as well as Mouse and Kelly's artwork! It was done for a dance-concert in Phoenix, Arizona back in1967 or '68. Dispite the fact that it is, what it is, it's still a rare bird or should I say DOG? naaahhhhhhhhh!

The FAMILY DOGMA REVIVAL

This Dance Party was given by the Family Dog along with the Monster Corp . in 1974 at the California Hall. On the left is one of the invitations that was sent out to the guests. Artwork by Alton Kelley.

POPEYE the "SAILOR DOG" ?

Here is one of only three known "Proof Sheets" to the very first NEW F.D. poster at the Maritime Hall in San Francisco. October 1995. Notice the color bar along the top. This gala event was also focused on celebrating the 30th birthday of the FAMILY DOG. A new look for the seafairing Indian Chief. It's abit difficult to see the seagull droppings on the background letters "THE" but they're there. At this point in time, the bands were'nt even commited, hence there are none on the proofsheet! For a look at the finished poster go to the " consignment" chapter in Posterville. All and all, it's a great piece-o-poster by, Jim "cartoonman" Phillips !!

Even the CHIEF gets a bit parched from time to time! And NOW, he can get a bottle of the Family Dog's Cabernet Sauvignon from his Wigwam's wine celler! This fine wine comes from the DOG's very own vineyard out in the beautiful Napa Valley. " Here's look'in at you pooch".

"GOOD OL DOG"

Here is the poster that Stanley Mouse created for the Chet Helms Tribute in 1995. Take note of the change in the motto on the left. "Just Shut Yo' Mouth! Stanley is known for his wry sence of humor as well as his wonderful artwork! Also the words on the ribbon beneath the ol dog "WHAT GOES AROUND COMES AROUND". Some things never change! There are signed pieces here in Posterville that are available on request.
